The Lancashire cueman was relegated from the circuit at the end of last season, after suffering a narrow 10-8 defeat at the hands of two-time Crucible finalist Ali Carter at World Championship qualifying.

He looked set to spend the next year as an amateur when he trailed Brierley 3-1 this evening, but breaks of 86 and 103 helped him to three on the bounce to score a dramatic win. He now faces fellow former professional Andrew Pagett, who won 4-3 against Germany's Umut Dikme.

Ireland's Fergal Quinn booked final round slot with a 4-1 defeat of former Crucible competitor Ashley Carty. He now faces Scotland's Dean Young, who beat Paul Deaville 4-2.

Former UK Championship semi-finalist David Grace whitewashed Barry Pinches 4-0 and now plays Jack Borwick, who beat Ashley Hugill 4-2.

Latvia's Rodion Judin booked his final round slot with a dramatic 4-3 win over Simon Blackwell. He now faces English 23-year-old Connor Benzey for a place on the World Snooker Tour. Benzey beat former Riga Masters quarter-finalist John Astley 4-2.
