Former English Under-18 champion Daniel Boyes fired breaks of 107 and 87 in a 4-2 win over Riley Powell as Q School event one got underway in Leicester.

Leeds cueman Boyes, age 17, impressed on day one as he knocked out Powell to set up a second round tie with Hayden Staniland. O'Shay Scott (pictured right) who was runner-up to Boyes in last year's English Under-18 final, also enjoyed a winning start as he beat James Burrett 4-1 with runs of 51, 55 and 64.
Teenager Shaun Liu top scored with 93 in a 4-2 win over Victor Sarkis while former Riga Masters quarter-finalist John Astley eased to a 4-0 success against Lewis Knowles with a top break of 76.
Former world number two Tony Knowles lost 4-0 to Williams Lemons, while Luke Pinches, son of former pro Barry, top scored with 73 in a 4-1 defeat of Ronan McGuirk. France's top two players both progressed as Brian Ochoiski beat Imran Puri 4-0 and Nicolas Mortreaux saw off Jamie Gimblett 4-1.
