It's Mark Williams against Zhao Xintong in the Halo World Championship final at the Crucible...

Tale of the Tape

Frame 30
ZHAO XINTONG IS HALO WORLD CHAMPION! Williams has one more chance to continue the fight-back but misses a red to corner on 8 and this time Zhao takes his opportunity with a break of 87. He drapes himself in a Chinese flag as he celebrates. Congratulations Zhao!
Mark Williams 12-18 Zhao Xintong

Frame 29
The Crucible fans are loving this now, Williams gets a standing ovation as he leaves the arena having won four in a row tonight. A massive fluke on a red gives him the chance and he makes 73, pulling out a series of difficult pots. Zhao has 15 minutes in his dressing room now to compose himself and keep any fear at bay. There are a possible six frames to play and Zhao still needs just one.
Mark Williams 12-17 Zhao Xintong

Frame 28
Finally we are seeing the version of Mark Williams who played so well against Judd Trump in the semi-finals. Zhao misses a fiddly cut-back red on 6 and Williams compiles a smooth break of 96 to pull another back. The crowd are getting behind the older man as they would love to see this battle extend beyond the interval.
Mark Williams 11-17 Zhao Xintong

Frame 27
At the very least, Williams is adding respectability to the scoreline here as he moves into double figures, making breaks of 37 and 25. If he can add the next two and get to the interval, that will certainly stir hopes of a fight-back.
Mark Williams 10-17 Zhao Xintong

Frame 26
Zhao is still on the brink of history as his first chance to clinch the title ends when he misses a tricky red to corner on 30. Williams makes 101, his first century of the match, to pull one back. As John Virgo says in commentary: "Play for pride, and see where it takes you."
Mark Williams 9-17 Zhao Xintong

Frame 25
Williams may feel his last chance to fight back has slipped away. Trailing 37-36 with the balls in the open, he under-cuts the penultimate red to a top corner. Inevitably, Zhao steals the frame with a run of 26 and he is nine clear with ten to play, having won this session 6-2. They return at 7pm with China's Zhao on the brink of history.
Mark Williams 8-17 Zhao Xintong

Frame 24
Leading 26-12, Williams attempts a tricky red to centre but it bounces off the far jaw. Zhao's capacity to punish his opponent's mistakes has been a huge asset in the final. A break of 67, including a very clever shot on the penultimate red to bounce the cue ball in the jaws of a top corner to gain position on the black, puts the Asian ace eight frames clear.
Mark Williams 8-16 Zhao Xintong

Frame 23
Zhao trails 18-14 when, for once, he misses a long red, and leaves the balls well placed for his opponent. Williams makes 66 and at least knows now he will be coming back this evening. Two more to come in this session, if Williams can take them both he'll raise his hopes of  a record recovery.
Mark Williams 8-15 Zhao Xintong

Frame 22
Zhao gets another one on the board and he is now just three from the winning post. Trailing 52-1, Williams makes a mess of a safety shot, letting Zhao in for abreak of 52.
Mark Williams 7-15 Zhao Xintong

Frame 21
Williams has made only four breaks over 50 in this match, perhaps if he loses he will admit that he hasn't won enough frames in one visit. He makes 45 but then fails to gain position when going into the pack. He later has a chance to pot the penultimate red, swerving around the pink, but the cue ball follows the red in. Zhao, trailing 45-44, is clinical again as he clears the table and now has his biggest lead of the final.
Mark Williams 7-14 Zhao Xintong

Frame 20
Zhao's long potting has been a real feature of this tournament and another delightful red from distance sets him among the balls. A run of 58 proves enough to extend his lead. One more frame before the interval, and then four more after the break. Williams still need to win one more to make sure the match goes to a fourth and final session.
Mark Williams 7-13 Zhao Xintong

Frame 19
Williams surely needs to win most of these fragmented frames to get back into the match. Both players squander chances, Zhao crucially missing a red to top corner when he trails 23-18. Williams makes 35 to take control, then gets the better of a safety battle and pots the penultimate red. Can he build a run of frames to slash the deficit?
Mark Williams 7-12 Zhao Xintong

Frame 18
This is the biggest day of Zhao's career on the baize and he has started it well. A lovely long red sets up a break of 46 then he plays safe. Williams converts a plant then adds green and another red, only to under-cut the blue to a centre pocket. That hands Zhao the chance to add the points he needs to take the first frame of the day. He needs six more for the title, and Williams still needs 12.
Mark Williams 6-12 Zhao Xintong

Frame 17
Absolutely crucial steal from Williams in the last frame of the evening. Zhao misses a tough pink at 43-15, and Williams claws his way back to take it to a safety battle on the last red. He eventually slots the red into a top corner and clears to the blue which is enough to draw within five frames overnight. If his target tonight was to win this session, then he has done that 5-4. But it's still a significant advantage for Zhao. No one has ever come from five frames behind after the first two sessions to win - though he did recover a 10-6 deficit to beat Matthew Stevens 18-16 back in 2000. Can he make history tomorrow? They return at 1pm on Monday for eight more.
Mark Williams 6-11 Zhao Xintong

Frame 16
Huge moment. Colossal. Williams looks set to close to 10-6, but on 63 he misses a tricky mid-range, and leaves the other reds open. Zhao casually clears the table with 71, never out of position, to go 11-5 ahead. Massive last frame of the session coming up, it's going to be 12-5 or 11-6 overnight.
Mark Williams 5-11 Zhao Xintong

Frame 15
Again it's two steps forward for Williams but then one back. He has first chance and makes 23 before missing a difficult red to a top corner. He later attempts a risky mid-range red and it rattles in the jaws, handing Zhao the table. A cracking red to centre sets Zhao off and he goes on to make 96, only missing out on a century when the final pink fails to drop.
Mark Williams 5-10 Zhao Xintong

Frame 14
Is the tide turning? Williams certainly looks more comfortable with his game than he did in the first session. Zhao misses a tough long red and his opponent responds with a run of 72. He trails by just four.
Mark Williams 5-9 Zhao Xintong

Frame 13
The frame is in the balance with Williams leading 40-14 with four reds left, when the veteran Welshman strokes in a long red, setting him up for a run of 22 which proves enough to narrow the gap. Most of the crowd are on Williams' side tonight as they want to see a close match. He'll be trying to channel that energy in these crucial moments. Four more to play tonight.
Mark Williams 4-9 Zhao Xintong

Frame 12
Zhao seems unfazed by the situation and retains the knack of bouncing back from a bad spell. Floating a red from distance into a baulk corner, he builds a break of 56 which means he has shared the first mini-session 2-2. Williams still has quite a hill to climb to get back into this intriguing final.
Mark Williams 3-9 Zhao Xintong

Frame 11
Big chance for Williams to build the fight-back momentum....and he doesn't take it. On a break of 8 with the balls well placed, he attempts a red along the top cushion but it stays on the baize. Zhao capitalises with a break of 71 and he's back to five frames ahead.
Mark Williams 3-8 Zhao Xintong

Frame ten
A scrappy affair but Williams won't mind as he pulls another back. Trailing 45-8, Zhao fails to convert a risky plant, handing his opponent the chance to add the points he needs.
Mark Williams 3-7 Zhao Xintong

Frame nine
Momentum swings are common in Crucible finals and Williams will hope it will turn in his favour tonight. He may feel if he can win the session 5-4 or 6-3 he's right back in it. And he gets the start he needs as Zhao misses a tough red to a baulk corner, and Williams knocks a tricky one into a centre pocket to set up a break of 86.
Mark Williams 2-7 Zhao Xintong

Frame eight
Tremendous stuff from Zhao, he has looked so calm in this session and deserves this big lead. He crashes in a plant from distance, setting up a break of 83 and he has won seven of the first eight frames. Williams can still come back - let's not forget that Dennis Taylor was 8-0 down in the final 40 years ago and eventually won 18-17. But the Welshman really needs to claw back ground in tonight's session. They resume at 7pm for nine more frames.
Mark Williams 1-7 Zhao Xintong

Frame seven
There's a long way to go, but at the moment this final is slipping away from Williams. An awkward red, stretching slightly, fails to find the top corner, and Zhao swiftly compiles a break of 104. That's his 18th century of the tournament, including the qualifying rounds, which equals the record set by Ding Junhui in 2016. And it's the 106th at the Crucible this year, just three off the record of 109 set in 2022.
Mark Williams 1-6 Zhao Xintong

Frame six
Against Judd Trump last night, Williams was close to flawless, but so far today he has made several unforced errors. Zhao runs out of position on 37, then Williams thumps in a mid range red and gets to 61, only to over-cut a tricky thin snick on the penultimate red to a top corner. China's Zhao cleans up and he is now guaranteed a first session lead. To more to play...
Mark Williams 1-5 Zhao Xintong

Frame five
Williams has a chance to close the gap further, but makes only 27 before again failing to gain position on a red when going into the cluster off the black. Zhao clips in a mid-range red and makes 57, which proves enough to extend his advantage.
Mark Williams 1-4 Zhao Xintong

Frame four
And Williams gets that foothold he needed, but Zhao may spend the interval regretting a missed chance to go 4-0 ahead. He leads 28-24 when he overcuts the black to a centre pocket, letting Williams in for a run of 27 which leaves him 23 points ahead on the brown. Zhao fails to get the snooker he needs and his opponent has one on the board.
Mark Williams 1-3 Zhao Xintong

Frame three
Crucible drama early in the final! Williams again has chances but can't wrap the frame up and it comes down to the colours. Zhao pots brown, blue and pink before rattling the black in the jaws of a top corner. Williams goes for a long black to the same pocket, but also fails to convert. Zhao is left with a thin clip to the opposite top corner, and slots it home. The more experienced Williams looks edgy so far and needs a foothold. Remember last year's final when Jak Jones went 7-0 down?
Mark Williams 0-3 Zhao Xintong

Frame two
This is a very impressive start from Zhao, he has quickly settled into the biggest match of his life. Williams has his first genuine scoring chance and makes 38 before going into the pack and failing to land on a red. Zhao plays a clever plant to a centre pocket to create an opening, and scores the first century of the final with 100.
Mark Williams 0-2 Zhao Xintong

Frame one
Williams' early attempt at a long red misses the target, handing Zhao the chance to make 51 before running out of position. After a safety exchange, Zhao gets back in and adds 77. Strong start for the Chinese potter.
