Ronnie O'Sullivan narrowed Judd Trump's lead at the top of the one-year rankings by winning the Spreadex Word Grand Prix in Leicester on Sunday night.

O’Sullivan beat Trump 10-7 in the final to take the £100,000 top prize, bringing his overall tally in ranking events this season to £406,500. Trump earned £40,000 as runner-up and remains on top with £446,000.

This list determines who qualifies for events in the Players Series and there are just two more counting tournaments – the BetVictor German Masters and BetVictor Welsh Open – before the field is set for the Players Championship (February 19-25). Only the top 16 will earn a place in Telford.

Ding Junhui reached the semi-finals in Leicester, earning £20,000, and moves up from sixth to fifth. Cao Yupeng also made the last four and jumps from 28th to 18th, though he hasn’t qualified for Germany so could need a deep run in Wales. Lyu Haotian is currently on the bubble in 16th with £87,000, but he also failed to qualify for Berlin, so in fact he is sure to fall behind Chris Wakelin, who is already guaranteed an extra £3,000 having won his qualifying match for Germany.

Shaun Murphy, who won the Players Championship last season, is in 21st place with £64,000 so needs results over the next two events if he is to defend his title in Telford. Other big names well outside the top 16 include Kyren Wilson (35th), Luca Brecel (38th) and Neil Robertson (88th).

On the official two-year list, O’Sullivan strengthens his position as world number one, with a lead of £173,500 over Trump. Ding is up from 11th to ninth while Cao jumps from 43rd to 39th.
