Lei Peifan has jumped 41 places up the Johnstone's Paint World Rankings with victory in the BetVictor Scottish Open.
At 84th in the world, Lei became the lowest ranked winner of a ranking event for 31 years when he beat Wu Yize 9-5 in the final in Edinburgh on Sunday. The £100,000 top prize boosts the 21-year-old, who was not even on the pro tour last season, to 43rd on the official list. Wu earned £45,000 as runner-up and he climbs two places to 25th. Semi-finalist Mark Allen is up one place to fourth, behind Judd Trump, Kyren Wilson and Ronnie O'Sullivan.
China's Lei also climbs into contention for the £150,000 BetVictor bonus which goes to the player earning the most money across the four BetVictor Home Nations Series events. There is just one remaining counting event: the BetVictor Welsh Open in February, though Lei will have to win a qualifying match the previous week to make it to Llandudno.
Neil Robertson still leads the way with £118,600, followed by Kyren Wilson with £114,400. Lei is now third with £110,000, then it's Wu fourth with £90,000. Judd Trump, three time-winner of the bonus, is not out of the race yet with £58,200, but he will have to win the £100,000 top prize in Wales and hope other results go his way. There are 18 players within £100,000 of Robertson and still with a chance of landing the bonus.
With just two counting events to go in the race to qualify for the 2025 World Grand Prix, Lei has climbed from 46th to 13th and guaranteed his place in Hong Kong. Wu moves from 12th to 11th, while Xiao Guodong reached the semi-finals and he's up from fourth to third, and the other losing semi-finalist Mark Allen is in 14th spot. Luca Brecel, the 2023 World Champion, reached his first ranking quarter-final of the season and he's up 26 places to 61st. Matthew Selt is 'on the bubble' in 32nd place.
Only the top 32 will earn a place in Hong Kong in March for the first event in the 2025 Players Series, then the top 16 will head to the Players Championship in Telford and the top 12 will progress to the Tour Championship in Manchester. The two remaining counting events in the race to Hong Kong are the Machineseeker German Masters (January 27 to February 2) and the BetVictor Welsh Open (February 10-16).
Lei also earns a place in next year's Champion of Champions tournament.
