A record number of fans have tuned into the action on the World Snooker Tour this season, with figures sky rocketing globally.
The TV audiences on Eurosport (Pan Europe) and the BBC have risen 19% and 26% respectively compared to last season. ITV's total audience is up 18% compared to last season. There has been a staggering 89% increase in those watching on CCTV5 in China.
WST’s Chief Marketing and Communications Manager Tom Rowell said: “We have been implementing our new growth strategy over the last 12 months and it is fantastic to see this reflected by the incredible viewing figures snooker has amassed this season. Whilst most sports see their numbers dwindle or at best stagnate, snooker is growing at a phenomenal rate.
“The public interest in snooker is booming and this has been mirrored by increased coverage of the sport in newspapers, online and on social media. Fans have been hooked to the action on the baize across this season and we intend to push to take the sport even further in the years to come. By any metric we are significantly growing year on year, whether that be social media, ticket sales and broadcast numbers as well as a raft of lucrative new events. The present and future of snooker is incredibly bright."
