One of Wilson’s career highlights came at the 2019 World Championship, when he earned a place in the hallowed single table Crucible set up by reaching the semi-finals. The Wallsend cueman beat Luca Brecel, Mark Selby and Ali Carter en route to the last four, where he was defeated by eventual winner Judd Trump

This has, without doubt, been Wilson’s best ever campaign on the World Snooker Tour. He eased past Noppon Saengkham 9-5 in the Scottish Open final back in December, to defend the title he won 12 months earlier. The Wallsend cueman followed that up with a 9-4 win over Martin O’Donnell in the Welsh Open final, to secure the third ranking title of his career. He also reached the semi-finals of the recent Tour Championship.

Wilson's victory at the Welsh Open this season must go down as his most significant tournament win thus far. Although the Wallsend cueman had already lifted ranking event silverware twice before at the Scottish Open, the 32-year history associated with the Welsh Open made his win in Llandudno even sweeter.
On his way to the final, he beat the likes of Jack Lisowski and Jonn Higgins and made a 147 against the latter. The 9-4 win over Martin O'Donnell in the title match gave him the Ray Reardon Trophy and a third raking event crown.
