By winning the Northern Ireland Amateur Championship three times while still a teenager, McGuigan established himself as a potential star of the future who could follow in the footsteps of his mentor and practice partner Mark Allen. He also made headlines by making a 147 in little over five minutes, during a practice session at the age of just 13. McGuigan enjoyed wins on the WST circuit while competing as an amateur, notably beating Alfie Burden in the 2022 World Championship qualifiers. Having won the European Championship in 2024 to earn a tour card, McGuigan is looking to show his talent at the highest level.
